Hello

Sweet Tea and Chocoate Mocha - Caffeine and Insomnia

"How'd you sleep last night?" I asked my three friends one morning on a recent girls getaway to the North Carolina mountains. Our annual trip allows us to catch up with each other and enjoy the serenity of the woods and peaceful lake.

As a sleep advocate I am always trying to encourage healthy habits that lead to better sleep. The setting couldn't have been more idyllic - cool temps at night, dark bedrooms, and a serene woodland setting.

Despite the welcoming sleep environment, two of my friends stated they had not slept well at all the night before. Both of them said they tossed and turned and never fell into that deep sleep

Those two same friends, who normally are good sleepers, realized what had robbed them of their good night's rest. A late afternoon glass of iced tea for one and a chocolate mocha for the other.

Caffeine is one of the most common sleep disrupters for kids, teens and adults. The prevalence of it in so many drinks and the frequency of consuming it several times a day makes it difficult for many to fall asleep and to stay asleep.

Find out what drinks, foods, and medicines are loaded with caffeine and if you should eliminate it completely if you are seeking some sound sleep:
