Newborn Baby Sleep Patterns - Tips for New Parents
I just returned from spending a week with my daughter and son-in-law and their newborn son. Such a treasured time getting to know our first grandson.
As a mother and grandmother, one of my main concerns was helping the new family get some sleep. Newborn schedules are so erratic and unpredictable, it is one of the new "jobs" as a parent is to help them set their circadian rhythm to help them sleep more at night and to be more awake during the day.
Swaddling, swooshing and sucking are soothing ways to help a newborn fall asleep. Using a swaddling blanket, a swooshing noise that mimics the sounds of the womb and a newborn pacifier are all important baby sleep aids.
Another big aspect of setting a circadian rhythm is how one uses lighting during the day and at night to establish baby sleep patterns.
