Hello

Why I Take A Walk at Lunch for Better Sleep

Fortunately I work in an area, actually a very quaint town, that makes walking a pleasure. Updated bungalow houses, colorful camellia bushes, and flowering magnolia trees are a refreshing sight for these tired computer eyes. I know you are thinking that I do it for the exercise - which is partly true, but the real reason is for the light.

Daylight Sets Your Sleep Clock

Perhaps you have heard how important it is to have a dark room at night to stimulate melatonin and to enhance one's sleep. Exposure to sunlight during the day is just as important as darkness is during the night.

Did you know that we have a master internal clock that we can regulate based on light/darkness? Just like newborn babies who need some help getting their daytime and nighttime straightened out - adults can use some help too. Especially in a culture that often keeps us in offices all day, with long commutes, there is little opportunity for exposure to daytime light.

To help set your master clock, it is important to get outside preferably around noon, but any daytime light is helpful. Most experts believe that 30" is enough to set the circadian rhythm that provides us with quality sleep at night.
