Baby Sleep Book

Looking for a baby sleep book to help your infant get the sleep and rest he/she needs for a happy, healthy baby (and mom and dad)?

Some babies are just sleepers. They just naturally fall asleep without much fuss or effort. But most babies need some parental guidance in establishing healthy baby sleep patterns. This is also an important time as parents to develop good sleep habits for their child that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

As Dr. Marc Weissbluth,Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child writes, "Prevention and treatment of unhealthy sleep habits in infants and young children are important because if they are uncorrected, they will persist."

Baby Sleep Aid Tip

When I was a new mother, I was the one who bought and devoured books on parenting and health. You may find that your husband is not too excited about reading a book on sleep and babies, when he could be watching an NFL football game.  However, it is important that both parents be on the same page and in agreement about developing and sticking to a sleep schedule.

Select a chapter from your favorite baby sleep book, highlight a couple of paragraphs and then share it with the father. Let the author of the book be the expert rather than you. My favorite book is by pediatrician, father, and grandfather, Dr. Marc Weissbluth. He is the founder of the Sleep Disorders Center at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and practiced as a general pediatrician for over 30 years. He knows children and just as important he understands the profound importance of adequate sleep in children for healthy children physically, emotionally and intellectually.

Timing Infant Sleep

Did you know that establishing healthy sleep habits can actually prevent crying? One of the important tips in this book is how to time your child's sleep.  Perhaps you were unaware that when babies get over-tired they get over-wired, making it more difficult to soothe them to sleep.

Healthy Sleep Healthy Brain

Dr. Marc Weissbluth writes, "...sleep deficiency in childhood may harm neurological development; the problems remain "hidden," not showing up until later."  This is one of many reasons why it is important as a parent (mother and father) to protect and advocate healthy sleep for their baby or child.

You will find tips and guidance on this important topic that include chapters on sleep strategies, bedtime routines, and how to sooth your child to sleep ... Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child

Putting Baby to Sleep

I'll repeat this again, especially for you new parents - establish a bedtime sleep routine. Be as consistent as you can to help get your infant into a pattern. Infants and babies love routine - not just children. The routine of baths, books and bottles helps to signal to their little minds and bodies that soon it will be time to go to sleep. Part of that bedtime routine is reading a book or books to your baby. Of course a newborn may not benefit from it, but when your child is a couple of months old, add reading a baby sleep book, like Sleep, Baby, Sleep , to your schedule. Reading to your baby helps prepare him/her for sleep. This special one on one snuggle time will bring back tender memories for years to come.
